Game 64 - Week 12

As we pass the half way point of the season, it's time to start looking at how life is once again in game 64!

Top game this week was the Super Cup final, where Anthony Brockway's Spurs beat Glen Pine's Basle 1-0 to take the trophy, Firmino with the only goal of the game early in the second half.  As a result of their win, Spurs are the first team into the draw for next seasons Champions League.

The League Cup quarter finals took place this week, and the top two in the Premier league were both surprisingly beaten.  Coach Pine's Bournemouth lost to Joe Hughes' strugglers Wolves, whilst Sam Roberts' Doncaster went down 2-0 at home to Spurs.  Man City won 3-2 at Rangers and first division Liverpool knocked out Ethan's Arsenal.  In the Euro version, a comfortable 3-1 home win for Gerard's Bayern Munich sees them one game away from another final, Markie's Juve thumped Barcelona 4-0 away from home, Benfica won 1-0 at home to Lazio, but Mini Mars were the shock winners of the round - beating runaway league leaders Basle 1-0 on their own patch.

Not a good week for Basle in fact, though they remain seven points clear at the top of the table, they didn't actually win any of their competitive games this week (and lost at home to Spurs in a friendly, though they did win at White Hart Lane in one...)  In one of three 1-1 draws in Serie A, Markie's second from bottom Juventus held the leaders to a draw in Turin.   Juve stay one win from safety with that point in what looks again to be a very competitive battle to avoid the drop.  Dnipro and PSG stay seven behind Basle at the top after both also drew 1-1, Bayern Munich drop to fourth after losing 2-1 at Mini Mars, Podolski with both goals for the French side.  Lazio and PSV move into the top half with wins, both are much closer to the bottom three than the leaders, but at the same time they're now very much in the battle for second place.

No runaway leaders in the British league, though Coach Pine is currently top of that one too.  Bournemouth and Doncaster lead the way, two points clear of Chelsea and three ahead of Spurs and Man City.  Bournemouth clattered Celtic 4-1 this week, but Doncaster did even better - Cavani with all four as Derby were beaten 4-0.  Bournemouth still lead the table on goal difference though,  Chelsea drop to second after a 2-1 defeat at Arsenal, Spurs are up into fourth after they won 2-1 at West Ham.
